Keeping records is very important. You will be tired and will not remember how much food each puppy has had, whether they toilet or not etc.

Your brain becomes like porridge and you are so absorbed with the puppies and stressed out that remembering simple things is impossible. Write everything down. It also helps you feel more in control and organised.

I kept comprehensive records on both litters - I never knew at the time of the first litter how invaluable the records would be!

Sometimes the records can also help identify a problem i.e. if the pups are all feeding poorly at a specific time of the day maybe the room temperature has dropped?

I kept a spreadsheet which I would update every evening/early morning after the last feed. The data fields included:

bulletWeight
bulletTime of feed
bulletAmount of feed
bulletToilet notes (wee, poo - consistency etc)
bulletMedication
bulletSupplements
bulletNotes

I have the spreadsheet on file with all the formulas already in place. If required I will email it with pleasure.
